https://reto.ubo.cl/index.php/reto/article/view/204

Introduction: This study investigates the relationship between the quality of life of Chilean women suffering from hyperplastic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (HDEHS) and the national health care system. The paucity of information and widespread ignorance about HEDS present significant challenges, potentially leading to misdiagnosis or late diagnosis. Approaching this condition from an Occupational Therapy perspective, in line with the framework provided by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), becomes crucial to mitigate the occupational limitations faced by affected individuals. Method: The study used a qualitative approach with a non-probabilistic sample of 6 Chilean women. The semi-structured interviews were based on the AOTA conceptual framework and were analyzed using content analysis techniques, including axial and open coding. Results: A close relationship was observed between access to health care and quality of life of women with SEDh, highlighting the impact of social determinants on health and the lack of knowledge about the pathology. Although state care tends to be less specialized, the lack of professionals familiar with the syndrome increases the costs of care and treatment in both cases. Conclusion: Both health personnel and family members should understand and recognize this condition. Lack of knowledge and socioeconomic status are major barriers for those with the syndrome, highlighting the need for awareness and education about this pathology.
Javiera Aubert ValderramaDaniela Chaparro MuñozYaritza Durán LópezCamila Sandoval JiménezAngel Vial Quileñan

2025-06-042025-06-04111115COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF PRIMARY SUPPORT NETWORKS ON THE VOLITIONAL COMPONENTS IN TWO RESIDENCES, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE, LOCATED IN THE METROPOLITAN REGION
https://reto.ubo.cl/index.php/reto/article/view/205

The present study performs a comparative analysis of the influence and effectiveness of primary support networks on the volitional components of elderly people institutionalized in public and private residences within the Metropolitan Region. Its objectives include identifying primary support networks, to describe the volitional processes, and to know the individual and subjective experiences of the participants. For this, a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was used, evaluating the experiences of 8 participants, through an interview specifically designed for the study and the Volitional Questionnaire (VQ). The results reveal that primary support networks, composed mainly of direct relatives, are essential in the volitional process. In addition, 75% of the participants showed high volitional levels, predominating the stages of exploration and competition. In conclusion, the quality of networks and the environment are a determining factor in the volitional state of institutionalized older people.
Kelly ZuñigaCindy NavarroCamila Maturana Dra. https://reto.ubo.cl/index.php/reto/article/view/207

This study seeks to explore and analyze the impact of sociocultural factors on the perception and expression of sexuality among older people living in the Metropolitan Region. Using a qualitative, phenomenologically designed methodology, a semi-structured interview was conducted with five women over 60 years of age. The findings highlight a strong familiar and cultural influence on perceptions and knowledge about sexuality, with sexuality being a taboo subject in most cases within families. The study highlights the importance of promoting sexuality education among the older people population, as the information gathered reveals a lack of adequate sexuality education among this group. This could serve to develop more complex sexuality education programs relevant to different age groups and needs.

Catalina PardoNoemí PérezMillaray CombeauDiego Matus Dra.
