Influencia de las expectativas de género en las dificultades diagnósticas en mujeres con Trastorno del Espectro Autista

Resumen

El siguiente artículo se construye en base a una revisión bibliográfica a través de una búsqueda de conceptos relacionados con niñas, mujeres, autismo y/o Trastornos del Espectro Autista (en adelante denominado TEA). Esta investigación pretende dar cuenta que el TEA en mujeres y niñas tiene una sintomatología distinta a la más estudiada, especialmente en aquellas consideradas de alto funcionamiento, lo que conlleva a un diagnóstico erróneo y/o tardío. Para ello, se buscaron artículos variados que permitieran responder la pregunta de investigación planteada. Dentro de estos artículos se barajan diferentes hipótesis de distintos autores y autoras que buscan responder la problemática planteada, notando grandes diferencias de expresión del TEA en mujeres en comparación a hombres, principalmente en los aspectos de camuflaje, sesgo de género e intereses restrictivos. Tras la investigación, se concluye que efectivamente hay menos mujeres y niñas diagnosticadas con TEA, especialmente por la existencia de un sesgo de género al momento de diagnosticar y porque las pruebas estandarizadas y criterios diagnósticos para identificarlas no cubren las características representativas de TEA en mujeres.
